About the festival

The Khamoro Festival (Romani for “sunshine”) is the largest professional Romani festival in the world. Since 1999 it has been organised in Prague by Slovo 21 and Studio Production Saga. During that time, some 280 bands from 40 countries have performed there – including world-famous supergroups such as Mahala Rai Banda, Kochani Orkestar and Parno Graszt. In addition to traditional Romani music, Khamoro regularly offers concerts of world-famous gypsy jazz, modern Romani music and classical music. But Khamoro is not just a music festival. The programme also includes various accompanying events – exhibitions, a children’s day, storytelling, film screenings, theatre performances, dance workshops and professional conferences. Approximately 10 000 people from the Czech Republic and abroad visit the festival annually. The main purpose of Khamor is to connect the Romani minority and the majority through art. From the beginning, the festival was supported by Václav Havel, among others. Khamoro is a holder of the prestigious EFFE Label – the European Quality Label.
